To EJJ/JV. 1209 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Ed.{J. L. Edwards}8/JH.31.12.36. Valve Gear Rig. Direction of Rotation. We observe that the direction of rotation of the B.T.H. motor driving the above job will be wrong when the engines are turned round to drive off the camshaft, and we should be glad therefore, if you would arrange to have a switch installed, and the brushes adjusted, so that the rotation may be reversed when desired. The reversal of direction, however, will mean that the ratchets at present used for driving the job are ineffective, and we suggest that these be replaced by square dogs. The motor of course will not then be used for starting the engine, and a useful safety measure would be the provision of a spring pawl which would automatically lock the dog operating levers in the off position. If this latter suggestion, however, involves any major alterations it may be omitted. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/J.Edwards. | ||
