Re-tightening bearings and replacing shims for chassis B.260.GA, owned by Mr. Embiricos.

We removed the original steel shims with Hall's metal facings from the main and big end bearings and replaced them by solid RR.56 shims. Upper face of { I 2 3 4 5 6 7 shims "stepped" { by the following { amount } .003" .002" .002" .003" .002" .002" .002" Reduced the { joint faces of { the caps by: } .001" .002" .001" .002" .002" .003" .003" ------------------------------------------------------------------ Total reduction { in play amounts } .004" .005" .003" .005" .004" .005" .005" to { ------------------------------------------------------------------ After carrying out the above work we carried out an oil test and the bearings were found to be OK. in this respect. We found the big end bearings to be in a good condition and apart from fitting new RR.56 shims to them of standard thickness (.001"), we did not touch them. On 4 of the original shims of the big ends, small particles of the Hall's metal facings were found to have broken away. Sr/VA. | ||
