It has occurred to me that if the thermostat were in the water leaving the radiator, i.e. going to the cylinders (naturally set for a slightly lower compression) its tendency to hunt would be reduced, because it would more promptly feel the effect of a change in temperature, whether this is caused by an alteration in the opening of louvres or valve.
