Lidsey}1/MA5.12.31. Dealing with the points which you raise, it is not essential that the longer bonnet for the stock chassis should be of the rivetless type, and we are quite prepared to accept a bonnet of the present type, but with the extra length for this particular car. We quite agree that it would be unwise to put into production a rivetless bonnet until you are satisfied that it has no serious objections. We also agree that it is useless to standardise a longer bonnet until you have devised a satisfactory scheme for strengthening up the side spare wheel carrier. We are hoping that in the near future you will overcome this difficulty. The Stock Car in question for which we are asking for the longer bonnet will have the spare wheel carried at the rear, so that the strengthened bracket in this case is not necessary. It is important that these longer bonnets should, where possible- that is to say when the absence of spare wheel carriers at the sides permits - have dropped sides to conform with the lines of the body, and it is this fact we understand which makes essential the use of the Phantom II type bonnet fasteners. Mechanically we were quite satisfied with the 25 h.p. type fasteners, but understand they cannot be used with the dropped sided bonnets. This memo also answers BY/Ogh12/4.12.31.
