BY APPOINTMENT Makers of the Famous “PATENT CASTROL” Motor Oils. 1231 C. C. Wakefield & Co., Limited. MANUFACTURERS OF HIGH CLASS LUBRICANTS. GOVERNING DIRECTOR, VISCOUNT WAKEFIELD OF HYTHE. MANAGING DIRECTOR, W.R.GRAHAM. DIRECTOR & SECRETARY, J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} BROWNE. TELEPHONES: CITY 4411 (10 LINES). RESEARCH DEPARTMENT. Wakefield House, Cheapside, London, E.C.2. EAE/AF 4th June, 1937. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Limited, DERBY. For the attention of Mr. Grylls. Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter of the 31st ultimo, Ref. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}7/AP. It has been customary for us to determine the film rupture strength of E.P. lubricants on the Almen testing machine. Castrol Hi-Press has always been made to withstand a minimum of 15,000 lbs. per square inch when tested on this machine. We cannot tell you what is the maximum film rupture strength of Castrol Hi-Press, because we do not make a habit of continuing the loading until a breakdown is observed because of the risk of damaging the Almen machine. Hypoy is designed to carry a very much higher loading. Obviously, the film rupture strength is well without the reach of the Almen machine. You are no doubt | ||
