X1104 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}5/KW. 10th January, 1936. A.B. Mackintosh Esq., The Ford Motor Co.Ltd., 88, Regent Street, London, W.1. Dear Mackintosh, I am very much indebted to the Ford Motor Co. for lending us the Lincoln and the Ford V-8. I hope I did not inconvenience you by keeping the Ford V-8 so long, but I did not know exactly when you wanted it back. Possibly you would like a candid criticism of these cars. LINCOLN. The starting up and idling of this car are remarkably good. Its performance is also good, particularly at the lower speeds. The suspension naturally suffers by comparison with the very soft front springing which is now in general use with independently sprung front wheels. Without the Hartfords in action there was still a tendency to pitch in the rear seats, and I thought it was necessary to make the car very uncomfortable with the Telecontrol in order to get it to sit down well on the road. The steering seemed a little heavy, and the brakes were certainly not in keeping with the performance of the car when we had it. | ||
