X726 Re Instruction Book. Lubrication of Universal Joint. Na{Mr Nadin}/S7/LG31214. 3.12.14. It will be remembered some 10 months ago Mr. Royce instructed us to alter the paragraph relating to the lubrication of the universal joint from a weekly operation to a monthly operation. This procedure was agreed to both by Experimental Dept. and by Mr. Platford, and has accordingly appeared in the Instruction Book during this time. Mr. Platford now advises us that he considers that the note should be changed back to a weekly operation, as he considers the joint will not hold sufficient oil for one month's use without leaking for the first few days, and he states that he has seen universal joint bushes which shows signs of seizure. We have pointed this out to Mr. Royce and he replies as follows:- "My own impression is that it should be done liberally once a month. This should be confirmed by a trial of what happens to a well run car if this is done once a month. I believe many go several months, and to say once a week does not help matters". In view of the foregoing we shall be glad to have your experience with this, as another edition of the book is about to go to press. This sheet must be filed with the correspondence to which it refers. | ||
