GOSHAWK 11. TAPPET ADJUSTMENT X.4226.

Regarding Mr. Hives statement that there is very little clearance on the Goshawk before either the valve washer fouls or the spring chocks and that even after alter-ation the minimum clearance being worked to is .040", we cannot understand why this should be so close.

Our LeC. drawing No.1332. definitely shows .400" space beneath washer with valve seated, and as lift is .335" the minimum clearance should be .065", if the method of dimensioning the pieces and setting the limits has been carried out with due regard to the working clearance.

Regarding the valve spring the theoretical total coil clearance is .130 which would probably in practice be reduced to .065" which is in agreement with the washer clearance shewn by us.
