The following is a copy of R4/ML.6.23, for your information:-

"Mr. Elliott says:-

'Regarding Mr. Hives statement that there
'is very little clearance on the Goshawk before either
'the valve washer fouls or the spring chocks and that
'even after alteration the minimum clearance being
'worked to is .04", we cannot understand why this
'should be so close.'

'Our LMC. drawing No. 1332 definitely shows
'.400" space beneath washer with valve seated, and as
'lift is .335" the minimum clearance should have been
'.065", if the method of dimensioning the pieces and
'setting the limits has been carried out with due
'regard to the working clearance.'

'Regarding the valve spring the theoretical
'total coil clearance is .130 which would probably
'in practice be reduced to .065" which is in agreement
'with the washer clearance shown by us.'

'Let us endeavour to make both clearances .100".'"
