FLYWHEEL VIBRATIONS.

There is considerable evidence to shew that the vibration we are investigating at the present time is in no way connected with the torsional period of the crankshaft.

You will see by our report Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/CPL/AJ.2.10.30 that further tests have shown that the essential feature to overcome the vibration is the extra support we get with solid drive. We have had one attempt to make this drive free so that it would not add stiffness to the shaft. We find, however, that although we made the serrations quite slack and much shorter, the vibration was still non-existent.

We are now arranging to take the drive through some rubber bushes, which should destroy the stiffness of this coupling.

The stiffer crankshaft does not appear to make any appreciable difference, the car we are working on has the 2" pins. Another car we tried had the standard shaft, the vibration occurred at the same speed.
