1015? COPY OF LETTER FROM GLEASON WORKS. August 12th. 1939. Rolls-Royce Limited, Nightingale Road, Derby, England. Prints found in B.V. file section 6120 Attention: Mr. I.A.Leslie. Gentlemen: We thank you for your order 2324 and in connection with this order we are enclosing our detail prints showing the gears as we plan to make them. The pinion shank is to be made straight with a 1-1/16"-12 thread on the end. The shaft will be ground to the bearing size the full length. The pinion shank will be copper-plated so that you will be able to finish machine, thread cut keyways etc. We will also omit finish grinding of pilot bearing. The ring gears will also be copper-plated leaving the back machinable so that you can drill and tap holes. We have altered the shape of the gear somewhat to give a better hardening condition and to eliminate expensive hardening dies. We do not believe that the added stock will cause any interference in the housing. If it should, stock can be turned off the back of the finished gears. We are making both members of SAE4620 steel case-hardened. The development will be $175.00 including the pair of soft gears. The 3 pairs of hard gears will be $67.50 per pair, f.o.b. Rochester with transportation prepaid to New York. We will try to make September 15th. as requested but in view of the heavy schedule at this time cannot safely promise delivery until September 30th. We trust that all the above will meet with your approval. Yours very truly, GLEASON WORKS. H.Lampman. HLampman:DH.{D. Henderson - Showroom} | ||
