-2- forgings which enable us to buy larger quantities. We cannot however make any modifications to the castings to enable us to produce parts common to the old type 2 and the new type 4. In order to complete the story, it is necessary to add the following:- (1) The apron part of the design is only shewn very sketchily, and we shall have to develop a design at Derby to produce the results sketched. (2) It would take us at least three weeks if you are in agreement that we go ahead to produce the luggage grid and the apron, and to do this we should have to start immediately; in other words, three weeks from your decision to go ahead, if, and when this is given. In regard to the position of the rear lamp, it does not appear possible to carry the number plate a sufficient distance below and forward of the rear cross-member to enable the lamp also to be ahead of the member in question, and therefore protected by it. We would suggest that it would be desirable in such a case to design a bracket which would project beyond the lamp, which would be sufficiently strong to withstand a light blow, in any case one considers that the breakage of the rear lamp represents careless driving, or, on the other hand it might indicate the need for a backing light, BY.{R.W.
