Re: Phantom II - Revised Type of Luggage Carrier and Rear Apron. Referring to Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}10/E.31.12.30, in examining DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}'s scheme N.S.3032 we find that the proposal will demand the following new dies:- (1) Right Hand die for the main swivelling arm. (2) Left Hand die similar. (3) Die for extension piece - one die would make both hands. (4) The necessary tools for producing the stamping from plate in sheet metal approximately .200" thick for the piece forming the guard rail and actually is the anchorage for the swivelling arm. One die will be used for this, and it will be transformed to R.H. and L.H. by brazing pieces on. So far as we can see, judging by previous experience we should only require a comparatively small number of this type of luggage grid, and therefore it is a question whether the expenditure of the above tools is likely to be justified, as with the exception of small parts which are produced on automatics, or as small forgings, none of the parts are common to any of our previous designs. I should estimate that our share of the tool cost would be at least £100 and possibly more, owing to the small numbers that we should be ordering, as the suppliers of the parts would not be prepared to bear so big a share of the tools when we are only ordering a small number of parts, as they would if we were ordering parts for the whole series. With our present type of luggage grid, the forgings were arranged to produce type 2 or type 4, from the same by the provision of certain bosses in the original dies Cont'd.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} | ||
