-2- Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Ed.{J. L. Edwards}16/JIL.4.8.36. (5) A third block is required with a 1.600" dia. exhaust valve, and allowance for a 1.700" dia. valve and larger ports as SCT.39. Valves. (6) Cooled and uncooled exhaust valves should be made the cooling being confined to the head of the valve however. (7) Silent tappets to be inserted. These to be as light as possible. Also the valve gear to be developed to enable it to withstand the high inertia loadings of the heavy valve. In the order of urgency we require first the standard blocks and head with variable lift mechanism and cooled and uncooled exhaust valves. To follow these we require the inclined plug head and then a head as specified in paragraph (2) with larger valves. Following on this, the block with larger valves will be tried as per paragraph (5) with cooled and uncooled exhaust valves, and concluding the programme to date endurance runs on silent tappets and valve gear to prove mechanical reliability. We would be glad therefore, if you would put the programme in hand as soon as possible, in order that a smooth and continuous development of this head may be proceeded with.
