11/3. To I. Waller, France. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}2/R.19.4.37. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} called me into his Office, and discussed the expenses. In future I have to inform you that no taxi fares in England will be allowed. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} states there are tubes and buses which can be used. With regard to dinners when travelling to France, half-a-crown will be the maximum allowed. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} states this is reasonable and no tolerance will be allowed. ----------------- With reference to the Daily Reports, Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} was in a very wild mood over the reports lately issued. The report of the 4th April he was very cross about, and stated it gave him a pain to read it. The four port head cannot possibly make any difference to the liveliness of the car. The only advantage, if any, could be gained at top speed with this head. You should not state these things without tests, then making sure that body weights, wind resistance, etc. when comparing two cars, are alike. We don't agree with you that the slight side play developed in the rear spring shackles has caused noticeable radiator shake. The loss of .002 clearance on the valves should not cause them to be audible if they have been set correctly in the first instance. There is no chance of the isolated gear change lever, and keep your leg away from it. There are no customers' complaints of this nature. Clanks. Almost anyone can make a thing do a thing, We don't want to know you can make the driving dogs clank. Would an owner in the ordinary way of driving cause them to clank ? Please keep to facts as much as possible, and not be over-critical. In to-day's report of 3.B.IV you have mentioned knock from front axle controls. Please note these are the old type and do not report anything further from these. 6.B.IV. has the improved front axle controls. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} | ||
