Petrol Tank 16 Galls.

No trouble was experienced with loss of petrol from the vent pipe on corners. The FB.4098 joint rubber failed. Petrol proof rubber is necessary and shall be instructed.

ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT.

Instrument Board LOP.DB.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions}1874. DCD.612.

The Smith's motor clock No.VIII was quiet in operation. It was not regulated correctly, and lost several minutes per week.

The Rev counter No. A.T.R.C.1, supplied by the A.T.Speedometer Co., was satisfactory, and found no less easy to read than the larger diameter instruments at present standard. The correct speedometer covered 7,163 miles, and was within the production limits for accuracy.

The Smith's dimmer switch was satisfactory in action to begin with but deteriorated with use, and failed to make contact at several places in the range, so that the instrument light became brighter in stages instead of progressively.

The direct lighting used gave excellent illumination of all instruments including the mileage and trip and was preferred to the present indirect lighting. The absence of the bright crescents of light round the edge of the instruments was valuable in reducing glare experienced with the indirect system.

The interchanged positions of the oil gauge and petrol gauge was beneficial in improving visibility.

Starter Motor and Drive LOP.D.B.1679. D.CD.270.

This unit gave no trouble, but was inclined to spin for a long time after a false start. Stronger brush springs are being fitted and are expected to overcome this.
