We have now two designs for a bonnet in aluminium, having flip flap shutters and no rivets.

So far we have not dealt with the louvred bonnet, which is a mass of rivets, because we hoped it would be abandoned. However we understand it will be required still on cars like the continental touring saloon and therefore we feel we ought to do something with it.

We understand that softer aluminium has to be used to enable the louvres to be pressed, and so the side panel has to be liberally supplied with stiffeners riveted on.

We would like to make the bonnet of .104 metal like the proposed standard and of the sale grade. Would a change in the shape of the louvres assist in avoiding the splitting of the metal by reducing the local stretching.

We suggest that Derby will wish to make some experiments with a view to reducing the stiffeners and improving the material.
