BONNET VENTILATORS.

With reference to Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}18/E6.7.31.

At the present moment it is apparent that N.2 Series will not be fitted with the American type tube. Under these circumstances, we know that we cannot prevent the cars over-heating under tropical and Continental conditions of atmospheric temperature without louvred bonnets.

Regarding the American type of tube. The car in France is at present running with the large American tube, which is the one which R.{Sir Henry Royce} wanted us to use, and with atmospheric temperatures of 30°C. they are on the point of overheating with the six "Flip-Flap" shutters open on the level.

Since atmospheric temperatures of 30°C. are likely to be exceeded in India, Australia, America, and various other countries, it is apparent that if this type of large tube is adopted the louvred bonnet will still be needed. We hope, however, in view of the results obtained that R.{Sir Henry Royce} will agree to us using the small Hexagon American tube.
