Hotel de France, Chateauroux, Indre, France. To "H.S." From G.W.Hancock. Report on chassis 10 G.III. after 2948 miles. E N G I N E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Power. Very good. Compressions are even. Engine detonates slightly on pick up. This has not altered from first running of the car over here. Lubrication of cylinders. Nos. 2,&6 normal. Nos. 3,&4 streams of oil running down walls Nos. 5,&1 over lubricated. Condition of cylinder walls. These are in good condition. Valve & fittings. We have had no trouble with valves. Tappet clearance checked when cold was as follows. Nos. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 Clearance. .001" .002" .004" .003" .0015" .004" .005" .001" Nos. 9 10 11 12 Clearance. .004" .001" .001" .002" These have all been reset to .003". The tappets have been noisy at times when running at high speed. At low speed they have remained quiet. There was a bad oil leak from valve cover. Pistons. Pistons are fitted with "L" shape piston rings S.53625:S.53749. otherwise to L.O.P.D.51487. There is a bad piston knock from No.5 when cold and hot. This can be cut out by shorting the plug. There is a considerable amount of carbon on all pistons. Plugs. K.L.G. type plugs fitted. We have had no failure with plugs. | ||
