because then there could be no spark at break). From the point of view of appearances, however, it looks worse than it really is to adjust a cutout to make like this on a 6-volt battery because it appears to make the cutting in late and as though you are not getting charge at the low m.p.h. at which you ought to be getting it, but the actual amount which it cuts off effective charge given to the battery is relatively small, and does not count for much. [text struck through] Actually, therefore, we make a compromise and make the cutout operate (come in) soon after the dynamo voltage balances that of the battery.

You will no doubt observe and it will be interesting to us to know if any upsetting effect is noticed on the battery ignition, i.e. when working on five cells without charge. We think you will find no difference as the present standard coil has, if anything, more energy than is necessary. Experimentally we have reduced this so far with complete satisfaction.
