Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} E {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} /P.S.N.2/M.2.6.37. AIR SILENCER. Four Fort Head - Ph.III. Yes [Signature] An examination of the air silencer from the recent 10,000 miles test car revealed that the rivets fastening the shell to the cast aluminium end flange were loose. The flange joint between the air silencer and the carburetter air intake was stated to be satisfactory and did not appear to have suffered from the overhung weight of the air silencer. If the joint stands up it should be possible to make a job of securing the shell to the end flange, and we should be pleased if Hy. {Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} would instruct that the number of rivets be increased from 8 to 16. The bracket for the stays and the stiffening crescent inside the silencer should be deleted as previously instructed. These modifications should be applied to the 10,000 miles car which is being prepared, together with the modified filter element to LeC.5304. E {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} /PSN. | ||
