Dear Mr. Gallup, Thank you for your letter dated 16th August, 1937, and for your kind offer of assistance in this matter of brake squeaks. Concerning the data you need, answering your questions in order :- (1) Weight of car, 3650 lbs. unladen. (2) Brake shoe external diameter 11 3/4". Brake drum internal diameter 12". Width of front shoe 1.6". rear shoe 1.8". (3) Thickness of lining 5/16". (4) Drums are of the rim cast type: Chemical analysis is Nickel 1.28 Chromium 0.05. Silicon 1.79 Combined Carbon 0.47 Phosphorous 0.03 Graphite carbon 2.30. (5) The blue-prints G.854 and G.870 show the front and rear assemblies in main principle and the geometry. (6) Drawings GB.2174 and G.100981 show the section of the drums used on the 3 1/2 litre car drawings GB.2723 and GB.2722 show the drums used on the 4 1/4 litre car. (7) The proportion of brakes front to rear is 0.82. (8) The actuation is mechanical. (9) The overall hookup ratio is 24 both to front and rear | ||
