from Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Copy to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Gr.{George Ratcliffe} Dr. X7686 Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}5/T16.3.33. sent out 17.3.33. Re P.11 Cars and Air Silencer. Thank you for your Sgll/E15.3.33 on this matter. It is clear that everybody was aiming at introducing the new semi-expanding carburetter on both the standard 40/50 and Continental type chassis with air silencer at S1 on 0.2 Series and onwards. Since the conference of November 29th last, the design of the air silencer has been considerably amended and altered, with the result that the standardisation sheet was not issued until 3rd February and is not yet signed up and completed. In view of the delays BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} decided that it could not be brought in until P.11 Series. I have this afternoon had a conference with BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} SFT.{Mr Swift} Ws. and Dallman of the Order Office. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} as you are aware is absent at WW. and Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} is also away, but Dallman has been trying to obtain deliveries of certain parts in connection with the air silencer. I cannot find that anyone is responsible for the delay, that is to say - everybody has been doing their very best to push the job along. The facts are that the air silencer was not released by Experimental Dept. and E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} until about the end of January. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} had then to prepare drawings; there certainly was no delay in preparing these drawings. Our Tool Designers had then to deal with the job in conjunction with the Works as to how best to make it both from a cost and quality point of view. It was decided by them that certain pressings were to be made out. In coming to this decision they were influenced by the fact that Tool Design Office and Tool Room were full up with work. The pressings to be bought out were released to the Order Office on February 18th, but up to the present they have not been able to get any of these but have made quite a lot of progress and they should be coming along fairly quickly. contd: | ||
