To Srn. from EFC. EFC4/AT13.3.18. X.2981 - INDICATOR DIAGRAM APPARATUS. We have taken up the matter of this Indicator Diagram Apparatus with Mr. Royce. You may remember that this is a scheme for taking indicator diagrams on an engine by a step by step process. If you would like to look up the details and correspondence which has taken place on this, we shall be pleased to lend you our file. There have been detailed in your drawing office the various parts of this, and instructions had been issued to Mr. Peskett to make these parts. At the time however that we began taking up the Dalby-Watson Indicator we considered it advisable to put this matter in abeyance for the time being, and we therefore verbally instructed Mr. Peskett to discontinue the parts on this job. We have received notes from Mr. Royce, previous to our visit, which indicate that he is still interested in this and would like it carried out. We therefore inspected the arrangement drawings, which had been got out in your drawing office, before going to Mr. Royce in order to have an idea of what had been done. We formed the opinion that the apparatus as detailed was on too large a scale altogether, and that it was not what Mr. Royce intended. In the case of the "jack in the box" phase changer it may not be possible to reduce this appreciably, and we think this may stand as designed. In the case however of the rotary valve we are sure that this should be made smaller and Mr. Royce has (Contd). | ||
