Outstanding Points in Design ALLOY SPECIALLOID Ltd. have evolved an Alloy which is the most successful ever used for auto-mobile pistons. The outstanding advantages are: 1. It has a low coefficient of linear expansion. 2. It is nearly as light as pure aluminium. 3. Definitely has the wearing properties of cast iron. 4. It is absolutely reliable, and has never been known to fail in service. (Mileages of over 200,000 on record). 5. Has a heat conductivity of three-and-half times that of cast-iron. OIL CONSUMPTION The SPECIALLOID Piston has been universally accepted as being the most efficient for use in reducing oil consumption to the minimum, and maintaining the lowest m.p.g. over long mileages. (See list of users). Its remarkable performance is controlled by the special ring layout incorporated in each type of piston. Nearly every SPECIALLOID Piston is designed and fitted with a ring of the slotted oil control type in the skirt. Because the smallest possible clearances are allowed on the SPECIALLOID Piston, and it is free from distortion, oil pumping is eliminated, and whilst the SPECIALLOID Piston is so economical on oil, adequate provision is made for the necessary lubrication of skirt. The cast relief about the gudgeon bosses acts as a reservoir and oil is distributed to the grooves—a valuable feature with a pressure-fed engine.
