Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}S/ML.26.11.40. FUTURE OF THE CLAN FOUNDRY. Confirming our conversation with you on this subject, we have at the Clan Foundry the majority of the personnel who were working on chassis experimental work before the war, and almost all Sr's Staff. There is a very strong feeling amongst these men that they would like to stay together, particularly as a lot of them have now arranged for their homes to be in Belper. They were of course, told that they were coming to the Clan permanently when this was going to be the Chassis Experimental Shop. From my own point of view I would not like them to be split up if it is at all possible to avoid this. I think we have got a very good team and are doing our 16 Kestrels a week with no come-backs. I welcome your suggestion that we may tackle Allison engine repairs. The Experimental fitters are of course, used to dealing with any variety of engine and are much above the average Works employee.
