DEPRESSIONS IN LATEST TYPE PHANTOM AIR SILENCER. The silencer was fitted to engine P.II. No.7 and the uptake was fitted with search tubes - (a) one 1 3/4" from nut, (b) one 4" from nut, (c) one 6 1/4" from nut. (see diagram). Finally one was fitted in end of top chamber as shown (d). The engine was then run full throttle at 3000 R.P.M. Ind. pipe depression (air silencer on) - 2.9" Hg. The depressions at (a), (b), (c), (d), were noted and are recorded Position (a) (b) (c) (d). Depression Ins.water 17.2 18.6 18.8 17.1 Air silencer was then removed (top portion only) and the depressions at (a) (b) (c) were again measured :- Position.
