Oy18-E-91327 -2- September 15, 1927 We propose this change as a temporary step. Undoubtedly the only satisfactory method of tackling the ignition is to produce it ourselves, as done at Derby. To do this we propose to build a double head battery ignition with oil relay advance, using Phantom parts as far as possible. We do not propose to adopt the magneto, because our experience here has shown a great reduction in Maintenance cost and trouble on electrical ignition since the magneto was discontinued. Further, the magneto is responsible for a great deal of noise which is avoided by the use of battery ignition. We suggest, however, that if Mr. Royce considers that a standby ignition is essential we should sent the details necessary to carry out the scheme, as on the 20 HP, so that the magneto is only running when required. In any case we propose to submit prints of the experimental scheme for the Rolls-Royce double ignition as soon as we have completed them. [STAMP] COPY Yours very truly, MO/E | ||
