Attached is a report on the valve spring surge which has been worrying us.

If the accelerations are heavier on the short duration camform, they may be responsible for the trouble.

It is somewhat curious that surge occurs with a four or a six without a spring drive, but not with an eight, i.e. 30.G.VI has a short duration camform, but there is no sign of valve spring surge.

To confirm the effect, or otherwise, on the six, we will run 3.B.50 with the spring drive locked solid, and see if this has valve spring surge.

It appears to me that, if the valve spring surge definitely follows the short duration camform unless a spring drive is used, it will pay us slightly to reduce the acceleration, rather than attempt to produce a valve spring which does not surge with the existing camform.
