Mev J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} for R.{Sir Henry Royce} 23.7.14. By3/G23714. With reference to the requirements of the Belgian Agents, what they are asking for is not the whole of the Side Lever mechanism to be set out. We have a side lever arrangement which puts both levers right outside of the body. What they are wanting is to bring either both levers inside, which we cannot do, or else give more space between the levers. For English Coachbuilders, we set the change lever in .500 at the top and set the brake lever cut 1.000 at the top, this is shown clearly on rough tracing herewith. If you do not agree to this, we must carry out the brake lever bodily and pack out the brake rack with longer distance pieces 1.500, as it appears necessary to give this increased distance between the change and brake levers at the top ends in order to get a panel between and yet not make them difficult to handle.
