Radiator cooling problems on the Phantom II model, specifically an alteration that increased running temperatures.

[Struck through] In your Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/MJ.9.9.30 you mentioned that soon after we had despatched a few Phantom XXXX II cars, we got into very serious trouble with radiators becoming stopped up. I was surprised to hear this because, whilst radiators becoming stopped up was a very serious trouble with Phantom I's, it was news to me that it was a trouble with Phantom II's, and on making enquiries I cannot find confirmation that it was a Phantom II trouble. However, whether that is so or not, I gather it is quite correct that, since the first Phantom II's came out, an alteration has been made to the radiator tubes which has had the effect of making the average temperatures 6°C. hotter than originally. This certainly is unfortunate as our margin of safety has always been on the fine side. When R.{Sir Henry Royce} was here on Friday last I spoke to him about this matter and he places great reliance on the square tubed radiator. In conversation I gathered that the first one which was made was not in accordance with his intentions and I understand that another one is now in hand.
