Adopting American gear manufacturing practices at the Derby factory.

- 2 - The point to consider as far as we are concerned is why we cannot have the same practice applied on the Derby cars, and if after studying the drawings referred to you are not able to appreciate the reason why we have not had the same success, we feel it is up to you to write America to obtain from them if possible further information which will enable us to obtain this "100% acceptable" condition. It must be appreciated that although we are able to obtain the "100% acceptable" side shaft gears by unground skew gears, which are at present standard, it is only done at considerable expense, and if this standard can be obtained as simply as seems to be the case from their report, I recommend that the practice should be adopted by Derby, or at least tested out. I bring the above points forward for attention as we must realise that BJ's instructions are still that the chassis of both Springfield and Derby manufacture should as far as possible be similar, and only differ in so far as it suits American conditions.
