The attached report indicates that we can run P.III clutches nearer the slipping point than at present, and, as a result, get a smoother take-up. We have only recently discovered this during tests on the Bentley clutch fitted with Thermoid. We are circulating a Depot Sheet forthwith pointing out that these weaker clutch springs can be used in cases of complaint, and, in the meantime, should like to fit them to trials cars to get a figure of merit for them under ordinary traffic conditions. As soon as we have a reasonable mileage on several cars without trouble we shall circulate a standardisation sheet. Complaints of P.III cars with Thermoid lining are not sufficiently numerous to justify any alteration without adequate testing. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
