With reference to Item (8) on Page 6 of the Minutes of the Conference held May 25th last, I should like to draw your attention to a few points of the Phantom III chassis, although strictly speaking, perhaps they are not altogether in keeping with the heading "Accessibility of Parts".

1. The dismantling and re-erection of the radiator is a very formidable job.

This involves disconnecting from the wings, the removal of the front cowling and the dismantling of the lamp wiring. This latter is very difficult in view of the awkward position of the junction box situated behind the radiator inside the nearside and the offside frame members.

Apart from the awkwardness of the operations, it is practically impossible to do the job without disturbance and damage to the paintwork. You will realise that on fairly new cars we are then responsible for the making good of the paintwork by a coachbuilder.

2. When dismantling a clutch it is necessary to lift the engine to enable two bolts on the nearside to be removed from the clutch housing.

This involves dismantling the air silencer, releasing the joints on A and B side of exhaust manifold and pipe, and also disconnecting the bracket which carries the accelerator shaft on the offside of the engine.

All these are made more difficult by the coachwork which of course is always in evidence on any car with which we have to deal.
