Dorset House, Stamford Street, London, S.E.1. 3rd June, 1938 W. A.{Mr Adams} Robotham, Esq., Rolls-Royce, Ltd., D E R B Y. Dear Mr. Robotham, I have been asked to read a paper before the I.A.E. criticising cars from the driver's point of view. I mentioned to Mr. Cowen some weeks ago that I had agreed to write this paper and asked if I might communicate with you for any data with which you could supply me for the purpose of the paper. In conversation with Mr. Elliott last week I told him that I proposed to approach you. I am not entirely clear in my mind as to the best way you can assist, and I want to ask you, therefore, assuming you are willing, to be good enough to send me any particular data which you have found of interest and which might be regarded as useful comment in a paper of this nature. I have in mind particularly, the photographs and data you showed me of the weight of the brake gear on certain cars, as one would be able to throw limelight on the very light cars that come from abroad by showing how the weight is distributed [strikethrough] eliminated [handwritten] in such a very important item as brake gear. Again, I should very much like to know the average loss through the transmission in the modern car, and if the figure is any better in any particular country. Can you give me some pointers on weight distribution, and on modern 1. | ||
