Speed tests on Brooklands track.

I think the record 100 miles for one hour on Brooklands track well worth going in for, and the following are a few points which should be considered over and above those which are now being done, which Mr Platford has explained to me. -

Axle gear should be increased say 10 to 15%. There could also be about 5% variation - (for testing while on track), by two sizes of wheels, i.e. 895 or 935 m/m I expect the large ones will be better for sprinting and the small ones for long distance runs.

I think the cheapest way to obtain this higher gear would be to reduce the diameter of the crown wheel to about 12" and the rest of the axle made to suit. By this means many standard parts could be used, such as tubes etc.

This would also make a lighter axle for given strength.

Engine should have larger exhaust boxes and larger diameter down pipes.
