Notes by Mr. Royce regarding car modifications for the 100 miles in one hour record attempt at Brooklands.

SPEED TRIALS.

Mr Royce said -

The 100 miles in one hour record at Brooklands was well worth going for and the following points should be considered -

Axle gear increased =, say, 10% to 15%.
Engine should have larger exhaust box and diameter of down pipe.
Pistons should be as light as possible, free running and perfectly gas tight.
Balance weights should be fitted with lightened crank webs, pins and connecting rods.
New wire wheels should be degisned, with pro-jection of boss balanced on each side to reduce wind resistance.
Tires to be large enough to last a long run.
Pressure should be brought to bear on the Brooklands people concerning the state of the track.
