BJ. from ROY. {Sir Henry Royce} ROY {Sir Henry Royce} 1/MG5.1.23 ------------ WEFCO GAITERS I have now had an opportunity of discussing with Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} your query re above, and hand you, attached, copy of his note. As I think you understand, we were paying the Wefco people some £4. 4. 0 per set for these Gaiters, and when I offered them orders in bulk last August, i.e. lots of 40-50 at a time, they reduced their price to 47/6 for 20 HP. and 40/50 HP. Later they were advised that we had standardized these Gaiters, and advertised the fact - but the bargain I made with them was to buy in quantities and quantities only. In October the Jeavon Company came forward and were very keen on securing our business. The matter has been discussed with them on various occasions, both here and, I believe, in London, and we are expecting a modified sample set embodying our latest ideas on the subject here in a few days. I would therefore suggest we let the whole matter rest as it is until this sample Jeavon set has been tested out exhaustively by the Experimental Shop. If they then report on same favourably, we can consider the advisability of substituting this Jeavon Gaiter for the Wefco. The Jeavon Company's present figures for such sample gaiters are:- 20 HP ...... 31/6d 40/50 HP .... 36/6d as compared with Wefco's all round present price of 47/6d.
