TEST OF LUCAS FS{F. Steele}22/N SWITCHES.

Original switch put on test 26.2.37.
Switch failed due to rotor developing side play in stirrup.
Fault rectified in Lab. and switch replaced on rig.
Operations before failure 20,000.
After a further 40,000 operations switch failed due to rotor stirrup breaking. One of supply contacts cracked and contacts loose on rotor.
Returned to makers by Mr. Taylor 11.3.37.

-------------------

Switch No.1. Received 16.3.37. and put on test.

After 33,000 operations the body of the switch became loose on mounting plate but worked satisfactorily until the switch was taken off test after 100,000 operations.

Switch dismantled for inspection, and was found to be in very good condition.

-------------------

Switch No.3. Received and placed on test 2.4.37.

Failed after 64,000 operations due to one of rotor actuating contacts having broken.

Returned to makers for repair and replaced on test 28.4.37.
Body worked loose 9,000 operations.

Switch failed again after 24,000 operations, the other operating contact having broken.

Switch again repaired at makers, actuating contacts to ENS.1101 being fitted, Replaced on test 21.5.37.

To date the no of operations is 265,000

Body worked loose after 23,000 operations.

After 190,000 operations, it was noticed that occasionally the switch failed to complete changeover for five or six operations. The switch would then operate satisfactorily for approx. a thousand operations before the fault would occur again. This fault is probably due to the switch working loose.
