Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}26/KW.29.11.35. 29th November,1935. C.F. Searle, Esq., Service Manager, The Rover Company Ltd., Coventry. Dear Mr. Searle, Thank you for your letter of the 18th November, together with the invoice for my wife's car. Candidly, though possibly the tappets are quieter, the difference does not seem to me to be very noticeable. The steering, however, is much improved, so are the brakes. The elimination of rattles from the body are also to be appreciated. I am rather curious as to the petrol consumption actually claimed for the 12 HP. car because in practice I never get more than 22 or 23 m.p.g. even with the needle weakened down as it is at present, and as we get 18 to 20 m.p.g. on the Bentley, this does not seem particularly good. Though you do not mention altering the mixture strength in your invoice, the carburetter certainly seems to be set much weaker, and actually I prefer the old setting for the small amount of improvement in consumption. If the carburetter needle has been changed I would be glad if you would let me have the original one back. In spite of my adverse comments, I am really very pleased with the car. Yours faithfully, | ||
