Re. 10,000 Miles Test of 24-EX. in France.

It has been made clear in the 10,000 mile reports that apart from the question of high water temperature there is also the question of loss of water.

When speaking to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} here the other day he said that the two things were quite separate and that the latter occurred on this car even if a temperature of, say 80°, was reached.

If you will look up the reports of 23-EX, which was run in the early part of this year in France, it shews that the same thing happened with that car, and the Minutes of the Conference held when I was at Derby on May 20th. indicate that you were of the opinion that the trouble with 23-EX losing water was due to the filter in the radiator. I see from the Minutes that you were asked to make some tests immediately to obtain some positive information on this defect, because it was also evident on 24-EX. which you had taken to Le. Canadel, and therefore appeared to be an inherent defect in the type, and not an isolated instance due to some detail.

It is most disconcerting to see that 24-EX. went off for its 10,000 Mile Test, with this defect, and although Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} was telling me how it could be remedied, I gather that this could not be done whilst the car was in France, and therefore it looks as if we shall still be running the test without knowing if we have a remedy for this point or not.

Would you please let me know what the position is, as I cannot understand how in the light of the experience with 23-EX. we sent 24-EX. away for test with the same trouble.
