Dear Sirs,

With further reference to your esteemed enquiry of the 8th.instant (Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}6/KW), although our arrangements for carrying out casehardening by the cyanide process are rather limited pending the opening of our new Works, which we expect to take place in about two months' time, we are pleased to advise you that we can deal with the Gears of the sizes mentioned and the work would have every care and attention.

We have not actually treated steel of the analysis specified and would, therefore, propose to adhere to the suggestions you make covering heating in the cyanide bath of 820°C, quenching in oil and ultimately quenching for hardening at 760°C., and possibly it would be best to treat a few samples in the first place to enable you to determine the physical properties, which we note refer to the core.

If the suggested process is the result of actual tests it may not, of course, be necessary to carry out further tests but our main point is that we want to be quite sure the treatment will give the desired results before attempts are made on completely machined gears.

Assuring you of our best attention to your requirements and hoping to have the pleasure of co-operating with you in this work,

We remain,
Yours faithfully,
BRAYSHAW FURNACES & TOOLS, LTD.
