For the attention of Mr.Grylls.

6th. October, 1936.

Dear Sirs,

We have carefully considered your letter of the 2nd. October, and feel that if the Solid Tyres at present fitted to your Dynamometer Test Machines are still providing the requisite amount of shock absorption they might well be continued in service despite the fact that the treads have worn down to the base of the grooves.

Any loss in heat dissipation due to the absence of grooving should be counteracted by the reduced amount of tread rubber present, but you might possibly wish to make temperature tests occasionally just to ensure that over-heating is not taking place.

If necessary the tyres could be grooved by means of a wood gouge immersed in water, and the tyres continued in use until their shock absorption properties had reached a minimum. Thereupon, we would like to suggest that the wheels are sent direct to our Manchester Depot where they can be refitted with new tyres and returned to you within the course of three days.

Yours faithfully,
FOR THE DUNLOP RUBBER CO.,LTD.

Manager,
