X235 TO BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM DA. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} C.c to - BJ. HS. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Dal/M. 30.6.26. INDIA HYDRAULIC SHOCK DAMPERS. -X.5520. Herewith we send N.Scheme 2222, shewing the adaptation of the original 40/50 shock damper to the 20HP. frame in accordance with R's instructions. We have shewn the main proposal for frames not yet drilled, but where frames are already drilled, and the existing friction shock damper holes would be broken into by the new holes, we suggest that an intermediate scheme shewn in the centre of the drawing should be used, a drop forging with a stud replacing the sheet metal bracket shewn on the main scheme. This latter adaptation is for frame already drilled, but not yet delivered. If there are cases where it is wished to fit these shock dampers on cars already on the road it will be necessary to have a further adaptation, namely, a plate under the front bolts about .175 thick and the width of the aluminium bosses, with a washer under the rear bolt. The reason for this is that we see it would be difficult to drill the hole for the vertical bolt in the bottom flange on cars already existing. The schemes shewen on this drawing require a new rubber pad and fixing, but in the case of existing cars where the plate under the front bolts would be used, the existing rubber can be retained providing it is cut away to clear the head of the bottom bolt.
