Noted Phy/SM STEADMAN FAILURE OF BENTLEY WATER PUMP FROM B-130-KT. --------------------------------------------- In view of the extreme difficulty of ensuring that no surplus solder shall obtain in a radiator of any type, the necessity of a solder trap is strongly indicated, and we suggest that a gauze filter similar to Phantom III. be fitted to all bottom water pipe connections on both Bentley and 25/30 HP. Precautions have been taken to reduce to a minimum the risk of surplus solder getting into the bottom tank, but we have no guarantee that this will not happen again, neither is it possible to introduce any mechanical device to prevent recurrence. We rely solely upon the skill of the operator, and it is quite possible to have numbers of radiators with surplus solder in them but sufficiently well attached to resist vibration and detachment.
