With reference to the quarterly complaints issued under Hd {Mr Hayward / Mr Huddy} 1/MM31.10.31 we give below our comments :- Dynamos. The question of noisy brushes is receiving attention and experiments are in hand with softer grades of carbon brushes and increased bevel in the spring slot. Our standardised half charge scheme should now minimise complaints re dynamo output. Ignition failures. We are still getting coils back from customers which are found upon testing at the works to be O.K. This suggests that ignition troubles are occurring which are not attributable to the coils. Unfortunately it is exceedingly difficult to get satisfactory information in cases of this kind. We know that our present standard coil when hot gives occasional misses on the 25 HP. on the pick up and an improved coil is in progress of being tested which should cure this trouble. Magneto failures. As these are returned to the makers we have no immediate information but we are endeavouring to ascertain the cause of failure from the makers. Starter motor drives. The cork washers in the 25 HP. drive are now instructed to be left thicker in order to minimise slipping, otherwise no further improvement is forthcoming with the present design. Speedometer trip failures. A new speedometer is being tested made by Watfords which has a larger and more robust trip recorder. Petrol gauge failure. A new type of electric petrol level indicator is being investigated which has proved satisfactory on other cars. Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Wst. | ||
