Dear Sir,

With reference to your letter of the 31st. ult.

Your wages to commence would be £2 per week for the first 4 weeks - if after that time you shew promise, we will pay you £3 per week for 5 months.

On condition that you suited us after that period, we should be prepared to offer you a 2 years contract with a wage of £4 to £5 per week, which would depend upon your ability.
