| Secret. X8770 BY11/H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 24.3.35. Mr. C. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} "V" SERIES MODIFICATIONS. Referring to the arrangement arrived at at the Conference of March 12th. at Derby, and to CJA/E.23:3:35, we confirm that the Shutter and Starter Carburetter Controls will not prevent the fitting of bodies which were built for "U" Series to "V" Series chassis fitted with the controls in question. In addition to the foregoing consideration, however, we shall require your consent to the incorporation of the improved control scheme referred to in your memo, as it is an entire departure from the modifications which were agreed to at the Conference on March 12th, as constituting "V" Series, when considered in conjunction with instructions issued prior to that date. The incorporation of the scheme will undoubtedly delay us completing chassis, but as agreed at the Conference, the controls in question can be fitted at the Coachbuilders, so that it would not mean delay in delivery of chassis from the Works. It would mean, however, that certain holes, approximately nine in number, on the dashboard, would have to be plugged up, and new holes drilled. Unless this were agreed to, it would mean a new dashboard, which could not be fitted at the Coachbuilders, under which conditions it would mean a week's delay in delivering chassis from the Works. The issue raised above is a general one which could possibly affect the whole of the 26 items dealt with at the Conference. In order to settle this definitely, the position as we see it is as follows:- Departures from the program which would have to be made to incorporate H's modification to the scheme submitted. 1.
