Sa. (Madrid). (Copy to Rv. Madrid Depot). Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}12/H/25.2.27. Re: Springs for Spain. You will remember when you were over here, you intimated that we were sending Cars incorrectly sprung for Spain and that they invariably had to go into Madrid Depot to have the springs changed. I took this up with Madrid Depot and they replied to the effect that they certainly have recently had one or two Cars in for attention to springing, the first being Carrion, who complained of a strange movement over two of the most important thoroughfares in Madrid. Our people thought the springs were quite O.K. until they tried the Car over those particular roads. They then noticed a strange kind of pitching movement. The springs were removed and it was found they were not bedded properly. This point was attended to and the Car was returned. Two days later, the Chauffeur stated that a great improvement had been made. The other case is Allende - Car 87.DC. - and in connection with this Car, it has been found desirable to make a spring change. You will doubtless remember that at one time, we suffered from breakages of springs in Spain and in other countries abroad and on this account, it was decided to strengthen the springs. This has been done for some time. It is, however, very difficult to spring cars so that they will ride comfortably over very rough surfaces in towns and at low speeds - and at the same time, give good results when the Cars are used on bad roads at high speeds in the country. We believe it would be beneficial for springing troubles to be discussed with our Works' Technical people and are wondering whether you are likely to be coming over in the near future. Works feel that the matter is sufficiently important for Rv. to come over specially but if possible, we should like you to have been able to go to the Works at the same time as Rv. so that the conference and discussion on the matter could be held with you present. Would you please confer with Rv. on the subject and let us hear from you at your early convenience. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} | ||
