Test No.O. 15.7.24.

Hygroscopic test of bone grey fibre (2nd. sample)

My assistant's report runs as follows :-

"This test consisted of a comparison between bakelite and bone grey fibre as to its susceptibility to the absorption of moisture. Accordingly a small sample of each material was procured, dried well, and placed in water for a period of 120 hours.

Each sample was carefully weighed before immersion and after, so that the weight of water absorbed could be calculated.

Weight of bakelite before immersion - 1.179 grammes
" " bone grey " " - 1.452 grammes
" " bakelite after immersion - 1.191 "
" " bone grey " " - 2.114 "

Increase in weight:-
Bakelite .012 grammes.
Bone grey .662 "

This means that the bone grey fibre has absorbed 45% of its own weight, of water, whereas the bakelite has only absorbed 1.0%."

Test No.1. 30.10.22.

Bench tests for wear of continental bakelite with cam unlubricated.

Equivalent miles run 10,000. Wear observed .021"

Test No.2. 29.1.23.

Bench tests for wear of bone grey with cam unlubricated.

Equivalent miles run 10,000. Wear observed .008"

Test No.3. 27.4.23.

Bench tests for wear of bone grey with cam lubricated.

Equivalent miles run 10,000. Wear observed .005".
